I had my front tooth knocked out back in '02, and no thanks to Alice, she took the only photo that exists of me without my tooth. For this and many other "shocking" photos, feel free to visit my online photo album. To view the older blog entries, please click here. |
Friday, September 3, 2004 Fish n' Chips 30 hours later, we finally arrived to South Africa. The trip involved an 11-hour flight to London Heathrow, a 7 hour layover, and then another 11-hour flight into Cape Town.
My original goal for London was to simply eat some authentic Fish n' Chips. But unfortunately, given how long it took for us to gather ourselves once we got in, and given the lines at the UK Customs Control, most of us (including myself) decided to just stay in Heathrow and look around. However, I did end up finding a Fish n' Chips place in Heathrow -- but unfortunately, they didn't let you take it to go. So with London being a "total bust", I hopped back onto the plane for yet another 11-hour flight. We finally arrived at 8 a.m. this morning, completely tired and out of sync. Lyn decided to keep us up and about all day today to make sure we did not go to sleep so that we wouldn't suffer jet lag. So, she basically set up this day for us to be total tourists, and fortunately, God provided us with a rediculously beautiful day today. Sunny, clear in the 70s (keep in mind that this is unheard of for this time of year as this is currently the winter)... We went up Table Mountain, which is a beautiful peak 3,000 feet up, overlooking all of Cape Town, spending lunch up there and taking an afternoon stroll. Then we went to the beach and played in the sand... yep, I'm on a "missions" trip. =) And finally, the evening was spent at "The Waterfront" (think Navy Pier or Fisherman's Wharf of Cape Town), where we ate... yep -- you guseed it: Fish n' Chips! (or more specifically, fried kingclip... the local variety of fried fish). It's been a good transition into this new experience for me. Tomorrow, we will go into Kayamandi, a shanty town where some of the consultants will be working at. And speaking of the work, we will also be finding out which clients we will be matched up with. Praises: safe arrival, and also, as of last week most of our clients had dropped out for various reasons, so we were down to two. But as of today, Lyn said that we were up to 12 confirmed clients, with three more that were going to get back to us soon. Requests: Physical health and safety -- I'm already experiencing a few physical ailments... pray that God would provide healing and protection for myself and my entire team. And with the client assignments tomorrow, pray that God will really bless this client/consultant relationship and that I would trust in him to effectively use me in helping the client bring glory to God in their business. < Previous | Next > |
