Toothless!
The Real "Shock and Awe"

I had my front tooth knocked out back in '02, and no thanks to Alice, she took the only photo that exists of me without my tooth.

For this and many other "shocking" photos, feel free to visit my online photo album.

Sapient

Client consultations started today. No kidding – I was pretty exhausted at the end of the day. Nancy wasn’t kidding – I can tell it’s gonna be a lot of work.

Our day (as will the rest of our client consultation days) started at 6:30 in the morning, with breakfast at 7, and group devotions starting at 7:15 a.m. Then final preparations until the clients came at 8:30. It was then (other than breaks for tea and lunch) non-stop work until my client left a little after 5. Debriefing until about 6. We broke for dinner (and I took a jog), and then I did some wrap up and prep work tonight.

And given that we only covered 1 “P” (Purpose) with the client (most of the days we’ll be covering 2 P’s, and there may be one day where we have to cover 3), this was considered a “light” day.

At the end of the day, during the debriefing, I totally felt like I was at Sapient again… like we were doing the day debriefing during a Sapient workshop. In fact, given the level of run-and-gun and exhaustiveness I felt at the end of the day, the entire day reminded me of a Sapient workshop. =)

But sitting there during the debriefing, I felt really blessed for the teammates that God provided me with on this trip. The amount of support and love that I feel that we have for each other truly comes from Him.

In terms of the day, itself, right of the bat we could see God working in many of the clients, and unfortunately we could even see the enemy at work in some of the other clients (a few clients couldn’t make it today because of last minute emergencies that popped up). For the most part, the clients seemed open and ready to surrender their businesses to God, ready to seek His will to use their businesses to glorify Him.

My client, specifically, is a very strong Christian (Praise God!) and is already in a position where he is wholly seeking God’s will for his company. However, already I can see lots of places where God really wants to show up and just amaze us with marketplace miracles in the company.

Moreover, it’s a praise to note that God set me up, during the consultant training in Redwood City, with a client who was also a strong Christian (actually, he was a pastor) who had already surrendered his business (a swim/fitness center) to God… in many senses, my two completely different clients are in very similar situations, and I think God was able to use Redwood City to help train me for Cape Town.

I’m still really scared though – because even though I see the great potential for God to do so many great things here, nothing’s really happened yet… and (yes, I know it’s never by my strength but by His alone… however…) I still feel like I’m not a strong enough Christian to do this, and that I’m gonna fail God.

But as I’ve been telling people here, I’m cautiously optimistic about seeing what God is gonna do here over the next 2 weeks.

Praises: It’s been a great start!

Requests: That I continue to find peace in God’s strength and faithfulness to do His work here. For my client specifically, that God will really show up and amaze us with where He can intervene in the business.
