Toothless!
The Real "Shock and Awe"

I had my front tooth knocked out back in '02, and no thanks to Alice, she took the only photo that exists of me without my tooth.

For this and many other "shocking" photos, feel free to visit my online photo album.

This Bird's Hecka "Kiff"!

Howzit! (I'm totally gonna start incorporating South African lingo into my blog… =)

So Ryan and I spent yesterday visiting the client at their office – it was nice to see their location and to meet the staff. We even got to meet one of my client’s partners and talk with him (a non-believer) for a little bit, explaining the purpose of Equip and what we’re trying to achieve over these two weeks.

Then in the evening, it was an interesting mix of western culture and African culture. First (for the western culture), Ryan, Nicole and I went to the mall to go shopping. The mall was called Century City – it was humungous – it totally reminded us of Vegas, and actually, the outside architecture totally reminded me of The Venetian.

Anyway, I personally think it’s kinda funny, especially because I rarely buy clothes anyway, but I did end up buying a couple of shirts (prices here are actually a little better than at home… but not by much). But what was interesting is when we were walking around, we did get quite a few stares. You see, Ryan’s Caucasian, Nicole’s African-American, and I’m … well, you know. And while three people walking around together in this sort of racial diversity is not that uncommon in the U.S., it’s really quite unique to see out here.

Later on (for the African culture) we met up with everyone else to eat at Africa Café… it was so much food: 16 courses (to be exact) of cuisine from all parts of Africa. The dinner started with a hand washing service, and the most exotic thing we ate was ostrich, which was actually quite good (it pretty much tastes like beef).

Today, we were back in our structured consulting sessions, covering another two Ps, Positioning and Partnering. I want to totally praise God because even though I know He’s always been at work here, I’ve been able to start actually seeing this. My client had a total “A ha!” moment today when we were going over Positioning, and it was great to be part of that discovery with him. And moreover, we’re seeing God starting answering some of the prayers for marketplace miracles… both with my client as well as for all the other clients in the session.

Tonight, there was an alumni dinner for some of the previous clients and consultants, and I was able to sit with and get to know a lot of the South African consultants on our team – it was a really fun night of bonding with them!

Tomorrow, I’m actually gonna be able to take a break… there are no structured sessions, so most people are going to try and catch up. But I was able to finish up the scorecard with my client today, so I’m all caught up already! Half the day will probably be spent in prayer and worship with teammates, and the rest of the day will hopefully be spent relaxing and discovering more of South Africa.

Cheers! Or, as it’s pronounced here, chee-ahz! ;^)

Praises: Seeing God at work!

Requests: Even though we are starting to see God at work, I totally feel that this is just the tip of the iceberg. So pray that God continues to unleash His will on this trip. Also, there are quite a few people getting sick and other physical ailments now. (BTW, thanks for y'all's previous prayers for me... I'm physically doing quite well now). So pray for God's healing as well as His continued protection of the team.
